CTT – Correios de Portugal won this year’s edition of the World’s Best Stamp Competition with its Expo 2025 Osaka stamp, reinforcing international recognition of Portuguese philately.
The production of the two commemorative stamps for Expo 2025 Osaka was a joint initiative by CTT – Correios de Portugal and AICEP – Portuguese Trade & Investment Agency, the entity responsible for organising Portugal’s participation in the World Expo held in Osaka, Japan, from 13 April to 13 October 2025. This special stamp issue was inspired by the theme “Ocean, the Blue Dialogue”, the motto of Portugal’s participation.
According to a CTT statement, the award recognises the creativity and technical excellence of Portuguese philately. João Caboz Santana, Director of Philately and Institutional Relations at CTT, expressed great pride that a national stamp has stood out among global issues, further strengthening Portuguese philately's international recognition and accolades.
Sixty-six countries participated in this year’s competition, submitting a total of 195 postage stamps. An international jury, comprising philatelists, academics, and designers from nine different nationalities, ensured a rigorous and balanced assessment process.
With this distinction, CTT has now won 43 major philatelic design awards between 1962 and 2025. Publications from its philatelic area complement these with 11 awards for graphic quality and content. In total, CTT has received 54 international awards, consolidating its philately as one of the most awarded globally and reinforcing the prestige of Portuguese stamp design and production.
