FITA Magazine launches special edition on Portugal at Expo 2025 Osaka
‘Floating Waters’ is a special edition of FITA Magazine dedicated to Portugal’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka, bringing together reflections from leading figures on the connection between art, culture, and the sustainability of the oceans.
The official launch of this FITA edition is set for 13 April 2025, coinciding with the opening of Expo 2025 Osaka. Public presentations of the volume are scheduled for 17 May at Casa Ásia – Coleção Francisco Capelo, in Lisbon, and on 10 June at the Portugal Pavilion in Osaka.

Inspired by the Japanese art of Ukiyo-e, Portraits of the Floating World, the volume highlights the importance of marine ecosystems and art exhibitions as spaces for multicultural encounters. The cover and photographs, by André Príncipe, capture the essence of the Portugal-Japan connection, featuring the iconic great white pelican as a symbol of resilience and adaptation.
This special edition offers an in-depth analysis of the Ocean, Blue Dialogue theme and the architecture of the Portugal Pavilion, while also exploring the cultural programme and the Osaka in Portugal initiative. It includes exclusive interviews with Joana Gomes Cardoso (Portugal’s Commissioner-General for Expo 2025), Ota Makoto (Ambassador of Japan to Portugal), Carlos Moedas (Mayor of Lisbon), Kengo Kuma (architect), Satoshi Yagisawa (writer), Dalila Carmo (actress), and various experts in art, gastronomy, history, and sustainability.
FITA – Friends In The Arts is a non-profit cultural institution that, since 2021, has been dedicated to connecting talented artists and professionals with renowned international institutions, building bridges between art, culture, and innovation.
