Six months after its opening, Expo 2025 Osaka closed today, 13 October, with the Portugal Pavilion having welcomed 2,355,616 visitors and receiving awards in three categories, including the Best Expo Theme – “Ocean, the Blue Dialogue”. The theme, which highlighted Portugal’s historical connection to the sea and its commitment to ocean protection, stood out among the 158 participating countries.
The Portugal Pavilion, organized by AICEP – the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency, served as a significant platform for economic, diplomatic, and cultural engagement. It featured 510 national entities and generated €4.5 million in direct business through its shop and restaurant. A total of 400 events were held, attracting over 550,000 participants, and welcomed 210 international delegations from 65 countries.
Joana Gomes Cardoso, Portugal’s Commissioner-General at the event, shared the team’s pride and emotions: “It was an experience of intense hard work, with sweat and tears, but above all with great happiness and a strong sense of accomplishment for the results we achieved.” The Commissioner also highlighted the protocols and memoranda signed, as well as the repurposing of the pavilion’s maritime ropes in Japanese schools and in a sculpture by artist Vanessa Barragão.
Portugal’s journey at Expo Osaka 2025 left a lasting impression on all visitors and reaffirmed the country’s connection to the ocean and sustainability.
