Rosa Pomar brings to Osaka the result of nearly two decades of work dedicated to promoting Portuguese wool. On 16 and 17 June, visitors to the Portugal Pavilion will be able to discover her project through an exhibition and live demonstrations of wool craft and knitting using traditional Portuguese techniques.
A multidisciplinary creator and activist, Rosa Pomar is committed to producing fully traceable yarns and garments made from the wool of native Portuguese sheep breeds—some of which are at serious risk of extinction. Her work combines artisanal and industrial know-how, encouraging conscious consumption, local production, and the preservation of traditional textile arts.
In 2013, she published ‘Malhas Portuguesas’ (Portuguese Knitting), a book that merges historical and ethnographic research with practical knitting instructions, reflecting years of study and travel throughout Portugal to document unique regional techniques and knowledge.
