The University of Coimbra (UC) will participate in Expo Osaka 2025 from 15 to 17 July, showcasing innovative projects at the Portugal Pavilion and reinforcing scientific and technological cooperation between Portugal and Japan. The university will present sustainable solutions in areas such as population ageing, the blue economy, and marine litter detection using drones — including the UAS4Litter project, developed in partnership with the Japanese Government.
Other featured projects include MIA Portugal, ACTivas, the Reefs device for wave energy production, the Atlantic Coast HUB, and UC Mar — all promoting innovation, knowledge transfer, and regional development.
UC's delegation will be led by Vice-Rectors João Nuno Calvão da Silva and Nuno Mendonça. At the university’s space within the pavilion, visitors will be able to explore the projects, engage in live conversations with UC representatives through a digital table connected to the Paço das Escolas, and discover the university’s heritage through virtual reality.
This participation also aims to strengthen ties with Japanese companies and institutions, in collaboration with JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization), raising the international profile of Portuguese research.
